The interdisciplinary minor is designed to introduce students to the arts, 文化, 经济体, 地理位置, 历史, 语言, 政治, and religions of East, 东南, 和南亚. The program also emphasizes introductory knowledge of Asian 语言 as a necessary means to understanding the region’s traditional and contemporary 文化.
概述
Students who minor in 亚洲研究 gain basic proficiencies in the traditions and 语言 of the region by acquiring fundamental historical, 语言, and cultural knowledge, as well as learn how to use research and analytical tools to challenge and to suggest new avenues for exploration.
招收ing in courses across different disciplines, minors in 亚洲研究 also learn to interpret and to appreciate cultural production in all its various forms, ranging from the political to the musical to the gastronomic. 以这种方式, students emerge both with elementary proficiency in at least one Asian language and the cultural knowledge and sensitivity to pursue future work and research opportunities in Asia. Many of our students study abroad for full semesters in Shanghai, China and Yamaguchi, Japan. Frequently, there are CentreTerm trips to countries such as India and Thailand.

The program emphasizes introductory knowledge of Asian 语言 as a necessary means to understanding the region’s traditional and contemporary 文化. Courses include Age of the Samurai, 中国语言, 日语, Reading and Ritual in Hinduism, 现代日本, Politics of East Asia, 亚洲人文, and World Buddhism.
